IMG_2635  Liam Linaker :
Several years after the turn of the millennium I went to see an Osteopath. His tentative diagnosis was hereditary scoliosis. I reflected that I’d created it, so it was up to me to sort it out.
Whilst attending a 3 week course at Schumacher College in Devon in 2005/6 I found I was unable to sleep comfortably, being in considerable discomfort lying on my back, front or either side. After 3 massages my masseuse told me that she couldn’t help me and recommended Cranio-Sacral Therapy. During the first session the therapist scanned my body with his hands, without touching it, and released through my left arm a considerable amount of what I can only describe as energy. I was able to sleep comfortably again. My rehabilitation had begun, from what is an even more astonishing story. Somebody must also have recommended I attend yoga classes,
which I have continued ever since, albeit with breaks here and there.
I also started attending workshops in a form of Kriya Yoga around the same time and became certified as a teacher in 2012. I was amazed at how being the teacher brought Spirit, Soul and Body together. It assisted with my personal development immeasurably, as has the personal practice that came with it.
In 2017 I decided to take a teacher training course in Hatha Yoga, having come to the conclusion that it could support my own personal development and practice. I was not disappointed, and have been as surprised and delighted by the teacher training as I was with the Kriya Yoga. It has proved so transformative that I do wonder if the inch or so I’ve lost in height since the turn of the millennium might not just have been arrested, but regained. I notice improvements in the openness of the hips, shoulder girdle and in the structure of the arches of the feet. I can even spread my toes more.
Wow. Yoga is the real deal and the philosophy behind it is truly inspiring.

TYPES of CLASSES & WHAT to EXPECT

HATHA YOGA – BEGINNERS – ALL LEVELS

The focus of these classes is to provide each participant with a safe practice. This will, in due course, enable you to enter into more advanced classes knowing and being comfortable doing all the transitional and core poses, as well as the Surya Namaskar sequences. More advanced students are always welcome for a refresher.

Each individual will go at their own pace at all times, learning to focus on their own practice. The emphasis will be on breaking down the poses and slowing down any tendency to rush.

You will discover your best posture for sitting and how to calm yourself in times of crisis with techniques to still the mind. You will learn to improve your concentration and what you can safely do at home if inspired.

You will also learn about the breathing locks, the, bandhas and when to use them, where to use props, blocks, belts and a wall or chair where necessary and to co-ordinate your breath with movement.

ONE TO ONE

If you feel a one to one class would greatly assist in your development they can be arranged.

MEDITATION and YOGA NIDRA

Learn to meditate. Take the opportunity to enjoy Yoga Nidra, a practice that helps you set intentions.

PHILOSOPHY

Have you heard of the Yamas and Niyamas? They are the first 2 of the 8 limbs of Yoga. The 3rd is the Asanas, or poses. The 4th is Pranayama, breath work. When we’ve looked at the Yamas and Niyamas we’ll also have a look at other philosophical systems, including Buddhism, Orthodox ‘Christianity’ and Grail Christianity.

These will be interactive classes, with participants as fully involved as they are confortable with. We will determine what is of relevance to us today and consider such things as whether we live in a Moral Universe.
